Building a New Economy Through Worker Ownership

South Africa faces a youth unemployment crisis of over 60%. Millions of young, educated, and willing South Africans are locked out of the economy. Indima Yethu Worker Co-operative Ltd was founded to provide a direct solution: dignified, sustainable employment where workers are not just employees, but legal owners of the business.

We are a registered worker co-operative in terms of the Co-operatives Act 14 of 2005. The word "Indima" means "role" or "contribution" in isiXhosa. "Yethu" means "ours". This is our role. This is ours to build together. We refuse to accept that the only option for youth is to wait for jobs. We are creating the jobs ourselves.

Our model is simple but powerful. Instead of profits going to external shareholders or one billionaire, they are distributed among the worker-owners who create the value every day. Every member gets one vote, regardless of position. Every member shares in the profits and in the decision making. This is economic democracy in action.

We are launching with 900 worker-owner positions across 4 provinces and 4 business divisions. These are not temporary jobs, gig work, or 3-month internships. These are permanent careers with ownership, paid training, medical aid options after 12 months, and a clear pathway to leadership. We are specifically targeting South African citizens aged 18 to 35 to give the next generation a real stake in the economy.

As a member, you will receive skills training, annual profit dividends, and voting rights. You will help run the business, elect the Board, and hold leadership accountable. This is how we build wealth that stays in our communities instead of being extracted.
